This past weekend the Rainey Media crew was out and about yet again collecting footage of beautiful Norfolk County. We were super lucky in terms of weather, aside from the slightly brisk mornings we had full sun all weekend. Thank goodness for sunscreen! Every time we venture out to continue our pursuit of capturing Norfolk County on video, we discover new and exciting things about our own community.
We started in Tillsonburg at the YU Ranch. Here they raise Texas Longhorn Cattle in a sustainable environment where the cattle are free range and grass fed. Their product is not only top-notch and delicious, but also environmentally friendly.
Our next stop was at Lake Erie Farms Inc. where they grow cucumbers and baby spring mix hydroponically. They operate with both the customer and environment in mind. We watched as they rapidly wrapped and packaged cucumbers, then went into their greenhouse to get some footage the growing operation.
Asparagus was next on the schedule. We stopped at Spearit farms located in Langton, where everyone was hard at work bundling up loads of asparagus. There was SO much! Asparagus is currently in season, so if you haven’t already gotten some of the fresh green spears yet you should get on that, the season only lasts until July!
For lunch we stopped at the Causeway in Longpoint. Not only was our waitress super nice, the food was fantastic! They base many of their dishes off what’s fresh and local. You definitely get what you pay for, SO much FOOD!
To round off the day we had quite the adventure when we took a boat on the “Trip to the Tip” of Long Point. It’s a beautiful place with a variety of wild life and scenery to take in. On the way back we hit some pretty rough water. We learned quickly that the weather on Lake Erie is very unpredictable!
Day 2 was a bit more calm. We started out at the bird observatory in Long Point where they showed us how they went about banding birds and collecting data from them.
We caught up with some cyclists who we stalked half way across the County (don’t worry they were cool with it).
We visited the Golden Leaf Estate Winery which is located in Langton and gathered some shots of the establishment. We also sat down and had lunch at their on site restaurant where they utilize many of the locally grown crops in their dishes. It was delicious!
We hit up Port Dover on a hunt for Motorcycle footage then finished the day off at the LaSalette Church where we staged a musical performance. It’s a gorgeous church that the community acquired after it was slated to be closed. They now use it as a community venue.
If you’re concerned we have missed something in Norfolk County, don’t worry, there are still many things and places we need to film. We will be out again very soon!
